March Community Vegetable Gardening
Monthly community gardening at Phakalane
Our recent opening of Community Vegetable Gardening was pure joy and contentment.
With much learning, sunshine and all the excitement of gardening.
A snake in the compost- just a little one, but he did elicit a variety of responses from his onlookers……a tiny horned cucumber beginning its growth …… the pure delight at learning we could cut ALL the vibrant yellow Jerusalem artichokes as this would enhance the growth of the underground artichokes.
And the pure joys of making connections with new faces.
This abundance of experience was made possible last month by our visiting volunteers.
Thank you so much for joining us and giving so much of yourselves Michelle, Lucy, Robyn and Heather. Your enthusiasm and pleasure was infectious! Thanks too to our trusty Urban Harvest team and our own super strong super smiley Isaah who worked tirelessly filling up beds with compost he has turned regularly over the past months.
We have another visit from Urban Harvest on Wednesday 14 March at 9:00 am – 11am.
We’d love for you to join us again please. This community gardening will become a monthly regular at Phakalane.
We will continue replenishing some of the beds. The brinjals and tomatoes will come out. In their place – in freshly renovated and conditioned beds, will go many many little seedlings that will provide our autumn harvest. Harvesting of existing spinach, lettuce, herbs and beetroots will continue, as will the regular weeding of beds and paths.
If you’d like to join us, if you’d like to feel your hands in soil and collect some fresh produce to take home with you, do RSVP Sue at firstname.lastname@example.org
No previous experience needed. Bring hat, gloves, secateurs if you have and a basket for your pickings.|Freshly made Claudia juices shared on Sue’s verandah after the session
